SIRIM Berhad will set up the certification of musang king durians to guarantee their quality and stabilize the price of the “king of fruits”.
Perak Sirim Director Mohd Adzhar Ahmad said they are currently working with Perak Department of Agriculture and the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute to develop specific standards for accreditation, which is to be implemented before the end of the year.
“Each country requires specifications to import a certain product. If the musang king durians are certified, there is no need for a lot of documentation, which cuts down on bureaucracy,” he said after chairing the Perak Durian Growers Association Annual General Meeting at the Hall. community of Taman Meru in Ipoh today.
“Besides that, this certification can guarantee prices according to the quality of the durian and that the king musang will not be sold at unreasonable prices.”
Meanwhile, Perak Durian Growers Association President Nor Hisham Nayan said he is planning several initiatives to help durian growers in the state improve the quality of their fruits.
He said refresher and biodiversity courses will be organized for members in collaboration with various agencies, as well as to train new planters.
“We will also appoint a committee in each district to identify members who need help.
“The committee and I will also go out to advise on durian cultivation,” he said, adding that so far the association has 500 members. – Bernama, June 18, 2022.
