Selangor government monitors key river water levels amid downpours


The Selangor government is closely monitoring the latest situation regarding the water level of several major rivers, as well as the current rainfall rate in the state.

Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, in a Facebook post, said all relevant agencies are still on standby.

“I have also received reports of flash flooding around Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam. The floodgates have been opened in an attempt to siphon off the receding water,” he said.

Izham Hashim, chairman of the committee for state infrastructure and public amenities, modernization of agriculture and agro-industry, said in a Facebook post that he was watching the flash floods with deep concern. which hit Taman Sri Muda and its surroundings.

“This incident happened due to the high water level in Sungai Rasau, as well as the standing water situation which delayed the flow of water to Sungai Rasau,” he said. .

He said he had asked the Department of Irrigation and Drainage to immediately activate the pumping system and said his officers would carry out an on-site verification to ensure the situation improves.

“Thank God, at the moment the water in the flooded areas has started to recede. I urge people in the surrounding areas to be careful and report any unwanted incidents immediately,” he said.
