Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island Film Opens in Malaysia on June 3 – News


Malaysian movie channel GSC Movies has started airing an English-subtitled trailer for the Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island (Kidō Senshi Gundam: Cucuruz Doan no Shima) animated film Thursday. The trailer reveals that Odex will screen the film in Malaysia from June 3-5.

The original announcement for the film described the film as a retelling of the original’s 15th episode. Mobile Suit Gundam television anime. The episode itself was omitted from English versions of the series.

The story is set after the defense of Jaburo by the Federation, with the Federation planning to renew offensives against Zeon’s invasion headquarters in Odessa. Amuro and the White Base head to Belfast to resupply, but the White Base receives new orders: Head to the “Island of No Return” to seek out and destroy all Zeon stragglers. Amuro set off to the island in search of Zeon spies, but found a group of children and a Zaku mobile suit on the supposedly uninhabited island. With the Gundam left behind, Amuro encounters a man who calls himself Cucuruz Doan. After discovering the island’s secret, Amuro attempts to return to the Gundam to escape.

The cast of the Zeon Southern Cross team includes (bottom row, left to right in the image above) Yuu Hayashi as a belligerent new member of the Danan Rashica team who admires Doan, Shizuka Itō like Selma Levens who thinks their current leader doesn’t compare to Doan, Atsushi Miyauchi as team leader Egba Atler who hates Doan, Yoji Ueda as deputy team leader and sniper Wald Ren, and Koji Yusa like Yun Sanho. Team members of all areas are MS-06GD Zaku mobile suits with increased leg thrusters for improved maneuverability and custom loadouts.

The cast of other Federation and Zeon military personnel include (from left to right in the image above):

  • Katsuyuki Konishi as a staff officer involved in the Odessa Offensive which exerts heavy command pressure on Bright Noa
  • Hiroshi Shirokuma as Elran, a lieutenant general in the Earth Federation Forces
  • Hiroshi Naka like Johann Ibrahim Revil (back from Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin), the supreme commander of the Earth Federation Space Force who sends White base in Belfast under the command of General Gopp
  • Naomi Kusumi as Gopp, a general who commands the Grand Pas fleet and negotiates with M’Quve for the capture of Gibraltar. White base falls under his command.
  • Takumi Yamazaki like M’Quve, a Colonel Zeon with a tactical mind, and has a plan hidden under his sleeve
  • Makoto Yasumura as Uragang, M’Quve’s subordinate. He sends the Southern Cross unit from the Moroccan front to investigate an anomaly at point CA.

Manga creator and animator Yoshikazu Yasuhiko directs the film, and is also credited with character design alongside Atsushi Tamura (grow old with you) and Tsukasa Kotobuki (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin, Puppet Saber J). Yasuhiko had revealed in June that he was working on an unannounced anime film. Ka Hee Im is credited as assistant director. Toshizo Nemoto (Delta Macros) writes the script. Long duration Gundam mechanical designers Kunio Okawara, Hajime Katokiand Kimitoshi Yamane are credited with mechanical design in the movie. Takayuki Hattori (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin) composes the music.

Yuji Kaneko is the artistic director, while Nagisa Abe is the key color artist. Takeshi Katsuryama and Ryo Iijima are the directors of the composition of photography. Shuhei Morita is the line manager of CGI, and Morihito Abe is the director of CGI. Kazuhiro Nii is being edited, and Sadayoshi Fujino is the sound director.

The film will be released in Japan on June 3.

Junji Onoit is Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin MSD: Cucuruz Doan no Shima (Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin MSD: Cucuruz Doan’s Island) manga (pictured left) launched in Kadokawait is Ace of Gundam magazine in May 2016 and ended in May 2019. The manga has a total of five volumes.

The manga is a spin-off from Yoshikazu Yasuhikoit is Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin manga. The manga tells the story of Cucuruz Doan, a character who appeared in the 15th episode of the same title of Yoshiyuki Tominoit’s original Mobile Suit Gundam animated series. In the episode, the titular character is a Zeon pilot who abandoned his position after refusing an order.

at Yasuhiko Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin the manga also takes inspiration from the original and reinvents it Mobile Suit Gundam series. Viz Media published part of the manga in North America from 2002 to 2004, before ceasing publication of the series. Vertical licensed the series in 2013 and released all 12 volumes.

The manga inspired a six-episode anime project in Japanese theaters from 2015 to 2018. Yasuhiko worked as the lead director, character designer, and storyboard artist for the anime. A 13-episode TV series recompilation of the anime premiered in April 2019.
