Ex-estate agent accused of cheating on property investment worth RM620,000


KUALA LUMPUR: A former real estate agent has been charged in Sessions Court with cheating a businessman 20 years ago in a property investment involving RM620,000.

Soo Seng Chee, 63, pleaded not guilty to the charge which was read before Judge Datin Sabariah Othman on Thursday (September 15).

He was accused of having deceived a certain Tan Han Kwan, 51, into inducing the latter to invest by buying two lots of bungalows on the site of the Residence At Mont project belonging to Sunrise Company Sdn Bhd, which the victim would not have told him. not hand over (Soo) 620,000 RM therefor, had he known he had been cheated.

Soo, who was arrested on September 2, was charged with committing the offense at Plaza Mont Kiara, Mont Kiara here, between November 2002 and March 2003.

The charge, brought under Article 420 of the Penal Code, carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years and lashes and is also subject to a fine if convicted.

Soo was released on bail of RM20,000 with bail and also ordered to report to the nearest police station once a month.

The court fixed October 17 for mention.
